How do I configure my static IP address for a sof2 server?

Set up a Sof2 Home server:

Set you PC IP Static:

99% of Windows internet users use what are called "dynamic" IP addresses. That means each time you connect to the internet, your ISP assigns you an IP address to use when you connect. The next time you connect, you might get a different address. If you're only connecting out to the internet, that's all you need.
If you expect people to connect in, say you want to run a web server that you want people to be able to find and visit, you'll most likely need a static IP address. A static IP is assigned by your ISP to you permanently, and identifies your server to the world.
If your computer is connected directly to the internet, meaning it's not behind a router or a firewall, it's actually pretty simple. In Control Panel, Network Connections, find the network connection that represents your connection to the internet. Most often it's labeled simply Local Area Connection. Right click on that and select Properties. Now click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item in the list (you may have to scroll down within the list to find it):

Now click on the properties button.
A default configuration will have both Obtain an IP address automatically, and Obtain DNS server address automatically selected.

Click on Use the following IP address: and enter the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway information that your ISP should have given you. (If they did not give you all three, ask them.)
In most cases they will also give you IP addresses for the DNS servers you should use. Click on Use the following DNS server addresses and enter that information as well.
That's it. Once you "OK" your way out of those configuration dialogs, your computer should now respond to its assigned IP address.

If you're behind a router, things get a little more complicated.

The first thing to realize is that the static IP address should probably be assigned to the router. That will require configuring the router, much like we configured your server above. Exactly how will vary from router to router, but the principals are the same: you'll configure the router to not get an IP address dynamically, but instead you'll enter the IP, gateway, subnet, and possibly DNS information by hand, using whatever approach your router uses for configuration.

The "trick", if you want to call it that, is telling the router to pass on requests it receives from the internet to your server. It's typically referred to as port-forwarding. Once again, depending on how your router is configured, the general idea is that you configure it to accept requests on certain "ports" and direct them to certain computers on your LAN.

The port part is fairly easy. If you want to set up a web server, then you'll know that port 80, where http requests are handled, is the port you want to forward. But to where?

Much like your direct connection to the internet, you'll need to assign your server a static IP address within your local network, so that the router knows what machine to forward the requests to. Typically a router will tell you, or let you configure, the range of IP addresses it will assign from dynamically, so you'll simply want to choose an IP address outside of that range. For example my router at home is configured to assign dynamic IPs starting at 192.168.1.100 and up. So I've elected to assign a static IP on my local area network of 192.168.1.2 (192.168.1.1 is the address of the router on the local network).

So the rest is simply a variation on what I've already covered: configure that server with the static IP you've chosen, a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 should do, the default gateway should be the router (192.168.1.1 in my case), and quite probably the router should also be your DNS. If not, use the DNS settings that your ISP assigned you.

Now configure the router to forward port 80 traffic to the static IP address you chose, and ... there you are. Your web server, behind a router, should be visible from the internet.

Port forwarding is actually very powerful, when set up correctly. In my case, I have port 80 traffic, for a web server, directed at one machine, Remote Desktop traffic (port 3389) is directed at another, and Skype (a post Skype selects randomly at setup time) to yet another.

in your case John read this:

[hide]your Static PC IP should be configured this way:
192.168.1.10
255.255.255.0
geteway: do: http://www.pcwintech.com/find-your-router-ip-address

DNS use Google one: 8.8.8.8
DNS2nd: use google one: 8.8.4.4

go to your rooter and follow this:

http://www.pcwintech.com/port-forwarding-linksys-wrt610n-linksys-firmware

set it this way:

(application name) Sof2 - (start port) 20100 - (end port) 20160 - UDP - (to ip address) 192.168.1.10 - fill enabled

Click 'Save Settings'

All done!

go to single port forwarding:

set it this way:

(application name) TServices - port 3389 - BOTH - (to ip address) 192.168.1.10 - fill enabled

Click 'Save Settings'

All done!

i will set up the server with Terminal services[/hide]

RCON cmds

In your server.cfg file there should be a line

seta rconpassword "yourpasswordhere"

that will set the rcon password on your server.

Now comes the important part: NEVER EVER EVER TYPE THE RCON PASSWORD IN YOUR CONSOLE WHEN YOU ARE PLAYING ON THE SERVER!!!

If you forget to put / before logging in you will broadcast the password as chat to the whole server. If I was a bad person and saw that happen I could quickly log in as the rcon admin, then change the rcon password so you couldn't log in, and I would have total control of your server. You would have to shut down and restart the server with the Usermin control panel to regain control.

So, to log in safely with rcon, make a text file in the base folder of your client computer and call it "login.cfg" or whatever. The file should have just the following line

seta rconpassword "yourpasswordhere"

Then to login in while on your server, open your console and enter

/exec login.cfg

and you will be logged in.

To use rcon after you are logged in ingame, just precede each rcon command with

/rcon

If you are are using a program like Rcon Commander, Rcon Unlimited, or Rcon SE to remotely control your server, just enter the command without "/rcon", i.e. "status" instead of "/rcon status".

For example

/rcon status (gives list of players and bots with their ClientID and IP address)
/rcon kick playername (kicks player)
/rcon clientkick ClientIDfromRconStatus (kicks player)
/rcon addip IPaddressOfPlayerToBeBannedObtainedFromRconStatus (bans player)
/rcon removeip IPaddressOfPlayerYouWantToUnban (unbans player)
/rcon listip (gives list of banned IP addresses)
/rcon forceteam playernameOrClientID Red/Blue/Spectator (moves the player to that team or to Spectator). "/rcon forceteam player spectator" works in all game types (even non team gametypes like FFA) and can be used in place of "amsleep", "amslap" or other abusive commands to take a player out of the action without kicking them.

/rcon cvar (shows you the current setting of a server cvar. "/rcon g_motd" would tell you the current g_motd)
/rcon set cvar NewValue (changes any cvar listed in your server.cfg). /rcon set sv_hostname "NewName" would change the name of your server to "NewName". Changes to g_gametype, g_forcepowerdisable, and g_weapondisable take effect when the next map starts or after the current map is restarted.
/rcon set timelimit NewTimelimit (changes the timelimit for a map)
/rcon set fraglimit NewFraglimit (changes the amount of kills to win a map)

/rcon mapname (gives name of current map)
/rcon map MapThatTheServerWillInstantlySwitchTo
/rcon set nextmap MapThatTheServerWillStartAfterTheCurrentMapEnds
/rcon map_restart (restarts the current map)
/rcon map_restart number (starts a countdown of number seconds before restarting the current map)

/rcon svsay chat (people will see what you type as chat from "Server")

/rcon path (lists all of the .pk3 files loaded by the server)

/rcon cmdlist (gives a list of the rcon commands)

MW3 RCON COMMANDS

/login - To login to Rcon
/logout - To logout of Rcon
/kickclient [player id] - This will kick a player according to its ID (given with the /status command).
/kick [player name] - This will do the same as the /clientkick command, but this command requires the player's name.
However, some names are very difficult to enter (with colour codes etc.), thats why the /clientkick commands is easier in use.
You can use 'all' as player name, this will kick all players from the server.

/drop - unknown
/dropclient - unknown
/tempBanClient [player id] - This will temporary ban a player using the player's ID. The length of a temporary ban can be changed in the server configuration file.
/tempBan [player name] - This will temporary ban a player using the player's name.
/ban [player name] - This command does the same as the /banclient command.
/banClient [player id] - This command will ban a player according to its ID. The player's GUID will be added to ban.txt.
However, this requires you to fill in the player's name, it is therefore advised to use the /banclient command (names can be long or contain colour codes).

/unban [player name] - This will unban a user according to the player's name.
/gameopt - Rcon command specific to MW3, can be used to set variables from Recipe
/serverinfo - This command shows the server settings and configurations.
/status - This shows information about the connected players. This includes the client ID, score, ping, GUID, name and IP address. The ID and name can be used for the following commands.
/dumpuser [player name] - This will give information about the player.
/map_restart - This will restart the current map.
/fast_restart - This will restart the current map just like /map_restart but is much faster as it will not load the map again. It will just restart the map.
/map [map name] - This will load the given map.
/killserver - As the name says, it will shut your server down.
/map_rotate - This will load the next map of the rotation. This is set in the 'sv_maprotation' file on your server.
/set - This command can se used to set variables, like: set <variable> <value>

RCON usage

It is very likely that you are not playing at the same location (IP address) as your server is. Thats where we use RCON (= remote control) commands for.
Using RCON is very easy, just add '/rcon ' in front of the commands above (removing the '/' of those commands). But before you can use RCON, you will have to login:

/rcon login <password> - Fill in the password of the server and you can use RCON commands.

Examples of RCON commands:

/rcon map mp_paris
/rcon status
/rcon banclient 5

How to set up a Call of Duty: MW3 Dedicated Server

There are five steps to get your Modern Warfare 3 server online and they are:

Create a Set of Recipes
Create a Playlist
Start Dedicated Server Executable and Console
Set Up Playlist, Map Rotation, and Go LIVE!

Step 1 – How To Create and Edit Modern Warfare 3 Recipes

Recipe in principle is a set of match rules you assign to a given map. In this section, you will learn you can create, save, change, and load recipes in Modern Warfare 3 dedicated server. You will find several example recipes in the folder location specified below, which you can edit using any standard text editor.

Example Recipes can be found here:

\steamapps\common\modern warfare 3\admin\*.dsr

*If you can’t find them here, look in the players2 folder.

How To Create a Recipes in Modern Warfare 3 – Match Rules
You will find the recipe section via Private Match Game Setup Screen in Modern Warfare 3 – Play > Private Match > Game Setup. Start by selecting the game mode you want to create a recipe for.

Subjected to whatever game mode you select, you will given different set of options when you select Options. You can tweak these game options here to your liking.

Once you have made all the changes, save the recipe to the admin folder used by the Dedicated Server by selecting Save Recipe To Disk option in the pop-up menu. The location to the folder, that is -\steamapps\common\modern warfare 3\admin\

How To Load Recipes in Modern Warfare 3 – Match Rules
Now, you have already saved recipe that you created in the last step in admin folder of Modern Warfare 3 root directory. Which is -\steamapps\common\modern warfare 3\admin\

If you are confused by the Steam Root folder name – It would be ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam’ in most of the cases. Can be different, if you have installed Steam in other than default location, hence using Steam Root folder name here makes things easy to refer to.

Recipes are saved in .dsr file formats, which can be edited using any standard notepad. You can edit them using the notepad, save the changes and select these modified recipes by selecting the Load Recipe From Disk Option from the bottom Menu of the Game Setup screen.

When you select that option, it will open a list of modified custom Recipes which you can load. Select the custom match rules recipe you want to load for your server and continue to the next step.
Step 2 – Dedicated Server Playlist

It’s a text file which has the match rules – recipes and map rotation settings. You can also set several different settings for how map recipes pair, weight and frequency a given is rotated to and all that stuff. Playlists in Modern Warfare 3 are .dspl file format but still editable with a standard text editor.

The content inside the playlist is in the following format:

<level_name>, <recipe_name>, <weight>
<level_name>, <recipe_name>, <weight>
<level_name>, <recipe_name>, <weight>

For Example:

mp_alpha, Custom_1, 1
mp_bootleg, Custom_1, 1

If you want to rotate the maps on random, you can put a * to denote it. In any case, there is an example .dspl playlist that will guide you to edit playlists in Modern Warfare 3 and has all the info you need to change any Playlist – Including Map Names, Recipes, and how to assign weights to a map rotation.

The example Playlist can be found in:

\steamapps\common\modern warfare 3\admin\default.dspl

When you change settings or edit a playlist or a recipe during an active session, the changes will be reflected in the next map.
Step 3 – How To Start Modern Warfare 3 Dedicated Server

Once you have set up Modern Warfare 3 recipes and playlists, you are ready to start your Modern Warfare 3 dedicated server. First, make sure all the important files are in the admin directory – \steamapps\common\modern warfare 3\admin

Start the Dedicated Server from Steam > Tools Menu. It will open the Dedicated Server Console. Name it by typing sv_hostnamein the dedicated server console. Replace with the name of your Dedicated Server say – Noob’s Haven.
Step 4 – Load Playlist and Setup Map Rotation

Similarly, you can set up the map rotation by loading your Playlist. You can type sv_maprotationto load the map rotation playlist and then, type start_map_rotate to push the changes live!

Want to play a private match ? password protect your server. Type ‘set g_password’ in Modern Warfare 3 dedicated console to password protect your server.
How To Tweak Modern Warfare 3 Server CFG – Configuration Settings

You can set the ports and other settings for your Modern Warfare 3 Dedicated Server by editing the following default server cfg or creating a new and pasting it in the following directory:

\steamapps\common\modern warfare 3\admin\server.cfg

The above default CFG has everything you would need to get started with your first Modern Warfare 3 server. We will update this step of the guide with an optimized server configuration file. Stay Tuned!
How To Join and Host Modern Warfare 3 Dedicated Server

Enable the server browser in options menu by selecting Dedicated Servers in the Options. Once you have done that, servers will be available in the multiplayer menu. Simply select Servers and browse to find the low-ping servers online and hit connect to join the party.
Things You Should Know

Dedicated Server Shortcut
After you have made the changes in players2 folder, you can start the server using this shortcut:

“X:\Steam\steamapps\common\call of duty modern warfare 3\iw5mp_server.exe” +set sv_maprotation your_map_rotation +start_map_rotate

It’s simple to create a shortcut, create a text file, change the above line of code and direct it to the location of the server executable. Paste the code in that text file and change the file extension to .bat and you are good to go!

Alternatively, you can create a shortcut on desktop and change the code in the target tab – you will have to add +set sv_maprotation your_map_rotation to launch your Modern Warfare 3 dedicated server.
